Of course, we all remember Jim Henson for bringing us those fuzzy, adorable animal puppets and their variety present.

But Henson also produced some very memorable, moving fantasy films, and after his death his production company has continued that tradition. “The Jim Henson Family Film Collection” brings together three classic films from Henson and his company, as well as an accompanying book of unknown teach.

“Labyrinth” becomes a pickle for teenage Sarah, who is stuck babysitting her crying baby stepbrother. But when she idly wished that the goblins would buy him, she never expected it to happen — or that the Goblin King Jareth (David Bowie) would challenge her if she tries to rep her brother assist.

Now Sarah has only thirteen hours to navigate a changing, uncertain maze, with Jareth’s castle at the center of it. To win her contrivance, she will have to attend exclusive creatures and avoid lethal bogs, bad fairies, head-jugglers, and finally Jareth himself — or her brother will be turned into a goblin himself.

“The Shaded Crystal” is the heart of this movie, where on another world, there are two queer races — the stout, gentle, serene Mystics, and the wicked, vulture-like, vicious Skekses. They are somehow connected to a massive crystal that was broken long ago, and now a shard is missing from it. What’s more, three suns are about to arrive into conjunction, and the shard has to be benefit in dwelling.

The Mystics have cared for one of the last Gelflings, an orphan named Jen. As the conjunction approaches, they send him out to come by the lost shard. Along the diagram, Jen finds recent friends who encourage him in his quest, including another Gelfling. But can they avoid the Skekses? And what will happen when the suns line up, and the crystal is completed?

These movies were created in whole by Jim Henson, and even in the darker moments, they have his unmistakeable label. More novel — and quite different in tone — is “Mirrormask,” which instead has the heed of writer Neil Gaiman, and seems like a warped “Alice in Wonderland.” But Henson’s production company does a titanic job with all the queer special effects.

In “Mirrormask,” we’re introduced to Helena (Stephanie Leonidas), a young circus girl who longs for a “normal” life, and makes justify, otherworldly drawings. But one night her mother collapses, and needs life-saving surgery. The guilt-ridden Helena is suddenly whisked into a world that looks very like her drawings, where everyone has a cover — and the sparkling queen of light (who looks a lot like Helena’s mom) is in a coma.

Helena is clear to wake the queen, and gets juggler Valentine (Jason Barry) to accompany her on her quest for the mysterious Mirrormask. But the stakes become higher when the forces of darkness — and their eerie queen — target Helena, and she finds that a black duplicate of herself has taken over her life. Now Helena must somehow defeat the gloomy forces, with her mother’s life — and her bear — hanging in the balance.

All three of these movies are classics of one type or another, and each embraces a different kind of fantasy. One is about wanting to be swept into an idyllic fantasy life. One is entirely of another world. And one is about the dangers of the other world.

To top it off, three are coming-of-age stories, whether for a teenage girl or a Muppet Gelfling — they all focus on someone pursuing something that can put what is critical to them, and growing as a person along the intention. The scripting tends to be tight and a puny wry. Sometimes it gets goofy, but well-acted (and in Bowie’s case, well-sung) .

What’s more, the styles of each movie change: “Gloomy Crystal” is very fantastical and serious, even with some nefarious, dim parts, while “Labyrinth” is more kiddy-friendly and Muppety, with the tiny chivalrous fox (though Bowie’s tight pants are a Huge distraction) . And “Mirrormask” has a different style altogether, with lots of dim buildings, eerie lighting, corpulent masks, wide bodies and tentacle-like limbs.

The “Jim Henson Fantasy Films” are a fine collection of films, showing off Henson’s more fantastical side. Definitely worth seeing.

The Jim Henson company is following the same format they had done with The Storyteller Collection and are putting their three fantasy movies onto a single three disk collection. The movies are The Dusky Crystal, Labyrinth, and MirrorMask. Two of these movies (Sunless Crystal and Labyrinth) came from Jim Henson himself while MirrorMask is actually from Neil Gaiman, but produced by the Jim Henson company.

The movies themselves are spacious. The Black Crystal takes you into a whole different world in a plan that no other film has even near conclude to accomplishing. Labyrinth takes what Sunless Crystal did a step further and makes a storybook fantasy arrive to life in an amazing device. MirrorMask is unbiased as pleasing as the previous movies, but with more computer generated images than live action animatronics and sets.

What you are getting is essentially the previous releases of these movies calm into this one volume, including all of the awesome bonus features. They say this collection has been mastered in high definition, but I don’t know if that means a vital improvement in video quality from the fresh release or not. There are no additional features or commentaries on these disks from what you had before. Luckily the unique releases came with some very nice documentaries and those are included here. This DVD space also comes with a booklet that is essentially a teaser for the upcoming Sunless Crystal manga laughable.

I am a minute hard pressed to recommend this collection to anybody who already has the movies. It doesn’t offer an additional features that you can’t already salvage on the separate DVD’s, the whole “remastered” element is debatable, and the one and only thing that would have made this a decent acquire (an informative insert booklet) turns out to be unbiased advertising for future merchandise. Personally if you really want a high definition transfer wait until these movies are released on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray (or whatever 1080p format that comes up) . Now that the 25th Anniversary Editions of The Unlit Crystal and Labyrinth are out I really observe no reason to accept this collection, and considering you can come by all three DVD’s separately (with the same features, mind you) at a lower cost the choice is clear.

[*]Simpsons Spacious Tales: 4.5/5

This episode features 3 sizable tales – Paul Bunyan, Connie Appleseed, and Tom and Huck. While I didn’t particularly care for Paul Bunyan, Tom and Huck was okay, and Connie Appleseed was very amusing.

The Simpsons: The Complete Twelfth Season is one HELL of a season – completely underrated – and, in my concept, better than seasons 11 and 10, and even 9 and 8. The bonus features are alright, as usual. 24 minutes of deleted scenes on the fourth disc, best Humorous Book Guy moments from up until 2001, Butterfinger commercials and a Red Rooster one from 2000/2001, and a Simpsons Fanfest from 200…1 I consider? And, as always, there is also commentary on every episode.

As far as the boxing is concerned, Season 12 is a bit better than eleven. The discs are easier to bag out of the box, and the material sleeve that the discs go in is a cramped more scratch resistant. The Laughable Book Guy head you spy on the box, as with season eleven, can be taken off. There is only bit of that peely-glue stuff to remove off.

Overall, as I said, this is a gigantic season, and is probably my celebrated season since season 7, or maybe 8… I’m probably one of VERY few to say this, but I unbiased really thoroughly enjoyed most of this season. It started lifeless, but it really got going, and the Simpsons Broad Tales and Trilogy of Error episodes were a tremendous small change. I really recommend this season.

4.5/5

Pros: Several awesome episodes, I counted 11 “epicsodes” out of 21 episodes… that is a really top-notch ratio. Also some blooming cold bonus features.

Cons: The box, while slightly improved, is smooth blooming subpar. The first disc for the most fragment doesn’t have very trustworthy episodes… that’s really about it.

And now we wait for season 13…

I know I am not alone when it comes to the method season 11 and probably season 12 will be packaged. In those almost immpossible sleeves the discs are crammed into. Once out of that tight fitting slot, unprejudiced expend some of those two sided sleeves or envelopes you gather at office depot. They fit attend in between the accordian type booklet unbiased stunning. It’s a like a flash obscene cost solution to the jam. Unprejudiced concept i’d fragment that with everybody.

One thing about Burst Angel is that it has a downward stride of myth progress. It started out colossal by presenting strong scenes of action and mercurial introducing the cast of characters. In volume two, it slowed a bit but allowed itself to deepen your knowledge of all the main protagonists in the series. And in volume three, it does almost the same thing. I didn’t quiz that in this volume. I wanted the main conflict to finally display itself in one of the episodes, a kind of hint to the slay of the series, but that never happens. And if it did, the hint either wasn’t blatant or the extinguish of the series will be a disappointment. Besides that, I detached can’t give Burst Angel a poor rating. It’s a solid series with safe animation.

In episodes nine and ten, the series finally moves to single episodes (in previous volumes, all the episodes are two parters) . These episodes are based around the epic of one of the four women on the team. The first is based on Sei, the second on Amy. Neither of these episode really progress the main status. In episodes eleven and twelve, the characters enter into a conflict between Osaka’s pleasant police force and terrorists. A modern character is revealed in these episodes in the name Takane, a biker-chick who wields a serrated samurai sword. Whether or not she’s a permanent addition cannot be told, as the sub-plot presented in episodes eleven and twelve doesn’t ruin until volume four of the Burst Angel series. These episodes also seem to follow the trend of Americanized Japanese animation by giving characters from Osaka a southern accent (recognize my review of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi at my profile) .

If you’ve already committed yourself to this series, I would strongly recommend that you sustain up with it. Though this volume is a bit slower than the others, it serene has a lot to be seen, and I’d disfavor for anyone to actually miss out on something that I perhaps missed. Plus, the lack of revelations in this volume promises powerful more revelations in the next, so don’t miss out on the episodes in between.

One of my several diversions is to compile different kinds of lists of films. For example, one is of under appreciated and probably seldom-seen westerns. This one is on the list. Directed by Robert Mulligan (who received an Academy Award for his knowing directing of To Slay a Mockingbird), The Stalking Moon follows a classic area line: sterling guys hover from one or more dreadful guys who pursue them until the final, inevitable confrontation. (Sound familiar? ) In this instance, retired U.S. cavalry scout Sam Varner (Gregory Peck) agrees to wait on with the rescue of prisoners from their Apache captors in Arizona Territory. For reasons best revealed during the course of the film, Varner assumes responsibility for Sarah Carver (Eva Marie Saint) and her 9-year son whose natural father is Salvaje (Nathaniel Narcsisco), an Apache warrior chief. They are accompanied by Cleave Tana (Robert Forster), another cavalry scout who is half-breed and (in enact) Varner’s adopted son. Unseen by us until the final confrontation (Mulligan’s exercise of stealth is colorful), Salvaje pursues them with rage and precision, killing everyone he encounters along the diagram. In the role of Varner, Peck demonstrates many of the same qualities we associate with him off cover as well as with his portrayal of Atticus Finch: dignified, shimmering, sensitive, practical, and decent. Of course, after a ten-year association with Salvaje, Sarah Carver fully understands what they are all up against. Meanwhile, their son’s loyalty is obviously to his father. The final scenes are situation in and come Varner’s cabin in Novel Mexico to which he was in the process of retiring, intending to live his remaining years in peace and tranquility.

Again, I want to comment briefly on the fact that Salvaje is unseen by us until approach the raze of the film. This strategy increases substantially the progressive sense of apprehension we feel, as do Varner and his companions (except the boy) . On occasion, the power of suggestion is far greater than anything we can visualize. Hence the prevalence of darkness in most panic films as well as the expend of sounds (e.g. a child’s roar, a gunshot, the release of a trap door on a scaffold during a public hanging), sounds with which we associate rather than actually peer a physical object. As we look The Stalking Moon, we Fair KNOW that Salvaje is nearby. His skills at stealth are even more impressive, given the fact that both Varner and Tana were cavalry scouts with years of experience. Special credit is also due to Charles B. Lang for the cinematography, to Aaron Stell for editing (in collaboration with Mulligan), and to the three art directors. Their talents are seamlessly integrated. For these and other reasons, I obviously mediate highly of this film. It has modest objectives and fully achieves them. Gregory Peck once confided that this was one of his accepted films. Once having seen it, we understand why.

What would a western directed by Alfred Hitchcock have looked like? Odds are that THE STALKING MOON, starring Gregory Peck, would advance cessation.

Peck plays Sam Varner, a scout in the Southwest working to round up the last vestiges of the fierce Apache tribe. Reluctantly he succumbs to the insistent appeals of a white woman (Eva Marie Saint), whom he has rescued from ten years of captivity among the Apaches, to occupy her and her half-breed son away from their makeshift camp. The one detail that she withholds is that her husband and the father of the boy is the famed, bloodthirsty and diabolical Apache warrior Salvaje. And you don’t have to be historian to leer that Salvaje is patterned after the real-life Apache warrior Geronimo.

Without gleaming of the carnage that Salvaje is reaping in the wake of his wife and son being taken from him, Varner takes the woman and child with him to Modern Mexico. It isn’t until Slash Tana (Robert Forster), Varner’s friend and protégé, shows up and recounts all that has happened that Varner realizes that Salvaje is coming for the child, the woman and for him.

The movie masterfully masks the warrior until the very waste, increasing the intensity of its area and suspense with every discordant strum of the guitars in the soundtrack.

THE STALKING MOON is a must-see western. Gregory Peck is astonishing and defines Varner as only he could. Robert Forster and Eve Marie Saint are also terrific. Wish this one were on DVD!

Before I initiate the review, I’d like to disclose anyone who’s a fan of this explain to Rob THE Amusing COLLECTIONS. They’re even better than the present (which I worship), and if this reveal introduced you to the Boondocks, then you should definately seek the comics that the reveal is based on.

The Boondocks might unbiased be the best expose on TV. First of all, it has some spacious, memorable characters. Huey Freeman, the 10 year obsolete revolutionary that listens to too noteworthy Public Enemy…His younger brother, Riley, who is fascinated by gangsta rap, guns, and bling…Grandad, the guardian of the two boys, who’s slightly disconnected from the unusual times, but has enough sense to be the occasional recount of reason…Tom Dubois (his name is a play on “uncle tom”), his (white) wife, and his confused daughter, Jasmine, who are the Freeman’s neighbors…Uncle Ruckus, the self-hating, caucasian loving sad man…Ed Wuncler, the owner of almost all of Woodcrest…His grandson, Ed III, and Gin Rummy; 2 crazy crime obsessed white characters played brilliantly by Charlie Murphy & Samuel L. Jackson…And more

Another reason the expose is so enormous is because it touches on bewitching and controversial subject matters. It’s a present that can really construct you assume – about social issues, religion, speed, relationships, business, war, politics, and unbiased society in general. Episodes about the R. Kelly trial, Martin Luther King Jr. coming out of a coma, ect., all expose that there is no situation Aaron McGruder (creator of the Boondocks) isn’t willing to go. But the key here is EXECUTION. All of the episodes are executed extremely well. A lot of the idea’s they’ve old on The Boondocks could have turned out to be really expressionless episodes, but they do a titanic job at executing ideas. And lastly, the note is unprejudiced Amusing. Every episode makes you laugh at one point of another. That, and the fact that the expose is incredibly knowing and witty, are what truly construct this one of the best shows on TV.

Even with all of that going for it, the music is the x-factor that makes this explain even more engaging to me. From the dope opening track, to the constant MF Doom and Dangerdoom tracks being played during the show/promos (I remember most of the promos having the instrumental of ‘Bada Bing’ from the Exertion Doom album in the background), the music sets an astonishing tone for the expose. Even if you’re not a substantial fan of MF Doom & Disaster Mouse like I am, you should quiet luxuriate in the music stale here.

Episodes From Season 1:

1. Garden Party – 8/10 – The Freemans are invited to a party at Ed Wunclers house. This one really had me hungry for more. It wasn’t the greatest episode, but parts of it indicated that this exhibit had the potential to be tall.

Quotable: Riley: Man, I really liked that house. Oh well. I shot a n****!

2. The Trial Of R. Kelly – 10/10 – Riley goes to R. Kelly’s trial to defend one of his popular artists. This is where the series really started to seize off. Tons of ample moments, and hysterical lines.

Quotable: Riley: If I started peeing on you accurate now, would you A: Smile and ask for more, or B: Fade the hell out the scheme!

3. Guess Hoe’s Coming To Dinner – 8.5/10 – Huey & Riley know Grandad’s recent girlfriend is a prostitute, but he won’t gain them. Wasn’t the best episode, but it had it’s moments. Katt Williams (‘Next Friday’, ‘Wild N Out’) makes a very laughable cameo here as ‘A Pimp Named Slickback’

Quotable: Grandad: Possess on there, Slickback.

A Pimp Named Slickback: No, it’s “A Pimp Named Slickback.”

Grandad: That’s what I said. “Slickback.”

A Pimp Named Slickback: No, it’s “A Pimp Named Slickback.” Like “A Tribe Called Quest”; you say the whole thing: “A Pimp Named Slickback”!

Grandad: Can’t I objective call you “Slickback” for short?

A Pimp Named Slickback: No, n****! It’s “A Pimp Named Slickback!”

4. Grandad’s Fight – 8.5/10 – Grandad gets into a fight with a blind man. I didn’t like this one as noteworthy as most people, but it’s detached a VERY humorous episode. The whole “n**** moment” thing was hysterical.

Quotable: Tom: Nobody’s gonna call you a “Fruity boy” or “Pansy Pants” if you don’t do this.

Riley: I will.

Tom: Upright, well, Riley will.

5. A Date With A Health Inspector – 10/10 – Huey & Riley need to pick up the “xbox killer” to win Tom out of jail. Probably my common Boondocks episode. The whole dropping the soap thing, and all the scenes with Ed II and Rummy gain this a classic episode.

Quotable: Rummy: Well no we ain’t glean none. But I always say the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.

Riley: What?

Rummy: Simply because you don’t have evidence that something does exist does not mean you have evidence of something that doesn’t exist.

Riley: What?

Rummy: What country are you from?

Riley: What?

Rummy: What ain’t no country I ever heard of. They advise english in what?

Riley: What?

Rummy: English mother f***er! Do you affirm it?

Riley: Yeah.

Rummy: So you understand the words I’m saying to you!

Riley: Yeah.

Rummy: Well what I’m saying is that there are known known and known unknown. But there are also unknown things that we don’t know that we know.

Riley: What?

Rummy: Say what again! Say what again, mother f***er! I dare you! I double dare you! Say what one more time!

6. The Fable Of Gangstalicious – 10/10 – Riley learns that his common gangsta rapper isn’t really a ‘gangsta’…Definately one of the best episodes, and we can all learn a dinky lesson from this about Clear rappers

Quoatable: Grandad: What’s Thuggin’ appreciate? Is that when you’re makin’ treasure to your woman and just before that “special moment”, you beat her in the head, grab her by the throat, and throw her down the stairs?

7. A Huey Freeman Christmas – 9.5/10 – Riley tries to end Santa, and Huey puts on the school christmas play, which he has titled ‘The Adventures Of Sad Jesus’. VERY Laughable episode, featuring Quincy Jones as himself.

Quotable: Riley (writing a letter to Santa) :

Dear Santa,

You are a b**** n****–no wait… (erases the line)

Dear Santa,

You are a b**** ass n****. I heard the mall is hiring extra Security to protect you. That’s a b**** go, Santa. I’m coming for that ass again untill YOU PAY what you OWE!

Sincurly Yours,

The Santa Stalker

8. The Genuine – 9/10 – The whole episode is a spoof on reality shows (Pimp My Chase, The Trusty World, Rude Makeover: Home Edition, etc.), and Huey is paranoid that a government agent is following him. Another tremendous episode, featuring Xzibit as himself.

Quoatable: Grandad: So you’re saying that the car stops, but the rims retain spinning? That’s unbelievable!

9. Return Of The King – 9.5/10 – Dr. Matin Luther King Jr. comes out of a coma to look how remarkable things have changed after 30 years. This episode really has a big message, and it’s a shame to me that Al Sharpton was so against it. If you actually paid attention to the episode, it wasnt offensive to MLK in ANY intention.

Quotable: Dr. King: Oh, snap. No, they didn’t. A boneless rib sandwich. What will they judge of next? I know I shouldn’t eat these. But they’re for a exiguous time only.

10. The Itis – 10/10 – Grandad gets his maintain soul food restaurant, but the customers rep addicted. This is another one of my common episodes.

Quotable: Riley: Whoa. This is what crack must feel like.

11. Let’s Nab Oprah – 9/10 – The return of Ed III and Gin Rummy. Not as advantageous as ‘A Date With The Health Inspector’, but mild expansive.

Quotable: Huey: (narrating) Ed and Rummy kidnapped Bill Cosby… But, he was really annoying. So they attach him serve 15 minutes later.

12. Riley Wuz Here – 9/10 – Colossal episode, about graffiti, art and expression, with Huey experimenting on the do of sunless television. The art teacher character is more than a bit unfamiliar…but I loved the message, and the ending of the episode.

Quotable: Riley: Don’t enlighten Grandad I left.

Huey: (blankly staring at BET) We got any grape soda?

Riley: …N****, you insensible.

13. Wingmen – 9/10 – Has a large message about friendship, companionship, and savor. Not to mention, its very comic.

Quotable: Grandad: Huey, say something deep.

Huey: Huh?

Grandad: I ain’t got all day, boy. Be deep

14. The Block Is Hot – The only Boondocks episode I didnt rep to stare…I’ll update the review with feedback on it when I obtain the DVD (or fetch the episode on adult swim)

15. Passion Of The Ruckus – 9/10 – Ruckus becomes a reverend, spreading the word of white jesus. This was a astronomical episode to destroy the season with, and had a ample ending…Can’t wait for season 2

Quotable: Grandad: “You aint a Jehova Gape now, are you? ‘Cause I’m in the Jehova Gawk Protection Program.

The biggest plight I had with the prove was that it didn’t include maybe my well-liked character from the comics, Caesar. Caesar becomes Huey’s best friend when he moves to Woodcrest in the comics, and he’s featured in most of the Boondocks comical strips. I figure (and hope) Caesar will be introduced next season, but thats exquisite great the only beef I could rep with this demonstrate. I’ll be clear to consume this up the day it’s released, and I would highly reccomend you do the same.

This prove BLEW me away when it came on earlier this year. I’d heard of, but not read, the funny strip…but I had no thought really how incindiary, topical, scathing, and sparkling this exhibit was going to be. I notion “oh gee…another attempt to bring a cramped amusing strip to TV.” I should have detected brilliance when the prove was knocked from BET to Adult Swim (Catoon Network…the only channel with BALLS great enough to air something like this) .

Like the dearly departed “Chappelle Expose,” Boondocks is about racism and the culture wars in fresh America. It attacks stereotypes (of both whites and blacks) …but evern better, the indicate also attacks reality. The best example of this would be the atrocious “Dr. King” episode, in which in an alternate timeline, we perceive what would happen if the well-known civil rights champion had not died but merely been placed into a coma. When King wakes up and speaks out against the War in the Middle East he’s labeled a “traitor.” Intelligent. Some people may miss the irony, and humor, of the note. If you win it at face value, the demonstrate is the most racist thing on TV today. However, if you question the context, and the intent of the creators you’ll gather that this indicate speaks volumes on the problems of today’s world. The people who work on this reveal obviously are supremely talented, and have a lot of well-known things to say. I’m eagerly awaiting the release of this DVD, and the second season.

We’ve been suppressed by “The Man” for too long. “The Man” is both Democrat and Republican. “The Man” is whoever is in power over the decent, hard working well-liked folk.

Billy Jack takes on “The Man” in this large DVD collection. Billy Jack is a half-breed Indian, West Point grad, and Vietnam vet, who although trys to remain lawful to his pacifist beliefs, will buy on the “The Man” when “The Man” hurts the puny guy. Better seek out when Billy Jack takes off his boots!

Billy Jack is not some mindless machine of violence. He usually ends up in a debate with Jean, the woman he loves, over the consume of violence as a predicament solving tactic.

By today’s standards, these movies are kinda dull, rotund of dialog and debate over civil rights, government corruption, and being hassled by “The Man.” Oh, and these films feature long stretches of girls with long blonde hair, parted down the middle, singing earnest [ie. out of tune] folks songs.

This collection is extraordinary. We accumulate fabulous widescreen transfers of the 4 classic Billy Jack movies.

Highly recommended.

I have the prevous DVD state from 2000 and this one, other than a few minor changes, this space seems cleaner and nicer

If you are a Billy Jack fan, you wish there was another after Billy Jack goes to Washington (a Mr Smith goes to Washington clone) .Tom Laughlin playing Billy Jack makes these films work so well. The seek information from is why isnt he eager in films today?

On the whole this is qualified miniature 1970-80 filmmaking is about. thirty years later, these little films are unruffled watrchable and enjoyable
